Once several textbooks are established as "standard" in any field, a newcomer must do more than be comprehensive; the new text must be unique in approach or content to justify its expense. Despite the fact that emergency medicine is a young field, many excellent textbooks already exist. I reviewed this latest book with great skepticism but was pleasantly surprised.
