This text and atlas is oriented more to needs of dental practitioners who lack background knowledge of AIDS than to physicians who are well acquainted with the epidemic. The book's first third covers topics such as definitions, epidemiology, HIV viruses, and similar general topics covered more thoroughly elsewhere. Physicians will benefit more from the remainder of the text which focuses on oral manifestations of HIV infection and associated lesions illustrated by excellent color photographs. Oral findings clearly could be the first objective clues leading to a diagnosis of AIDS.
