To the Editors: I read with great interest Levine and Chaisson's report (1) on Mycobacterium kansasii infection in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Their clinical findings differed markedly from those of our recent study of the same subject (2). In our study, the findings in 23 patients with positive cultures for M. kansasii and HIV infection more closely resembled those seen in patients with M. avium complex infection.
