The medical interview is the most frequently used tool in clinical medicine. It is estimated that a health care practitioner may conduct as many as 150 000 interviews during a career. The ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with patients may be one of the most powerful skills that a physician can acquire, because the quality of the data obtained in the interview is at the core of successful diagnosis and treatment.
