During the last decade, there has been an explosion of knowledge in the neurosciences and in our understanding of the pathophysiology of neurologic disease. At the same time, many advances have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with diseases of the nervous system. Because many physicians treat patients with primary neurologic diseases or neurologic complications of other illnesses, a need exists for a general neurologic text that is up to date. Several new general neurology textbooks have recently appeared, and the two-volume set edited by Drs. Swash and Oxbury is the latest.
