In 1978, the World Health Organization announced plans for a program for the control of diarrheal disease. With this increased concern, a series of books have appeared dealing with aspects of diarrheal disease and intestinal secretion. Many of these have been collections of papers presented at a symposium without an obvious attempt to provide a balanced coverage of the topic.
