To the Editors: Ernst (1) raised an important point about plasma fibrinogen measurement, a test used in cardiovascular risk factor assessment (2). In agreement with a past report (3), he compared fibrinogen measurements from several sources to indicate that fibrinogen values can be affected by geographic and climatic considerations. We have recently made observations in type I diabetes that bear directly on his conclusion. They have been used to test whether geographic or climatic factors, or both, actually influence fibrinogen level.
