To the Editors: The history of syphilis and the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in Belle Glade, Florida, by Grey (1) is timely. These infections and the unique contributory influences have been of long-standing concern to my colleagues in the Palm Beach County Medical Society, especially since Belle Glade was designated "AIDS Capital of the U.S."
The discussion of multifactorial components failed to mention another matter of probable relevance: the fluoridation of Belle Glade water for more than three decades.
