I can't exactly tell you when it was she entered the room. It was, I think, sometime between Infectious Disease and Rheumatology. We were hard at it, pounding out another certifying examination, and I can tell you this: Nineteen of us sitting around the table were stopped in our tracks by her entry. Nineteen of us set aside the nuances of synthesis and judgment, of multiple choice and true-and-false, and stared. (There was a twentieth, who was himself so tangled up in a particularly convoluted question that he remained oblivious to her.)
