Food stuffs are frequently contaminated with potentially pathogenic microorganisms and are the source for many human infections worldwide. Most textbooks of medicine and infectious diseases do an excellent job in covering the clinical aspects of infections due to the numerous infectious agents involved in foodborne illness. Most textbooks devoted to the laboratory analysis of infectious agents do an excellent job in presenting the microbiology but usually fall short on the clinical aspects. This new text by Varnam and Evans attempts to cover both topics under one cover and, in many respects, succeeds.
