Field of medicine: Rheumatology and immunology.
Format: Hardcover book.
Audience: Physicians in all fields, as vasculitis can occur in all body systems.
Purpose: To provide guidance for physicians of various disciplines to diagnose vasculitis in all its forms and, therefore, provide better treatment and patient care.
Content: The first chapter is an up-to-date review of the classification of vasculitic syndromes by the two editors. This is followed by four parts—Basic Science, Clinical Manifestations Common to Vasculitis, Imaging Studies in Diagnosis of Vasculitis and Percutaneous Interventions, and Vasculitic Diseases and Syndromes and Related Disorders—for a total of 40 chapters and an extensive index. Most vasculitic syndromes occur worldwide, but incidence may vary markedly across the globe. Many authors are from the United States, and more than 50% are from other countries. Immunologic and inflammatory mechanisms are woven throughout to provide an understandable background for the many disorders and syndromes that come under the heading of vasculitis. All chapters have excellent tables and illustrations; in particular, the color photographs are of the highest quality.
