Field of medicine: Medical humanities.
Format: Softcover book.
Audience: Physicians, the general public, and particularly those who are interested in the medical humanities or teach medicine and literature.
Purpose: To capture in a moving, insightful, and sometimes jarring fashion the beauty, joys, frailty, and anguish of people's lives and bodies when they come into contact with medicine and the emotion and sensitivities evoked in the physicians who meet them.
Content: The book has three parts: Medicine Stone, The Cherry Orchard, and The First Assent of the Future. Many poems in the first part have already been published, but it is important that they have been published collectively because they read so well together. The second section of poems devoted to Chekhov is outstanding, but the reader should have read something of Chekhov and his life to appreciate the poems.
