The author in his foreword says that "it will be apparent at once to those familiar with the subject that the scope and manner of the presentation differ in some important respects from those generally followed in textbooks. It is based on the method of teaching pathology at McGill, which deals with it primarily, not as a practical medical or premedical subject, but as a scientific and cultural branch of knowledge, and endeavors to up it in its proper setting.
