The first edition of this work was published five years ago. It was little more than a detailed statement of the gradient theory of activity down the intestine with its bearings on the problems of gastroenterology. This new edition has been entirely rewritten, and represents a determined effort to make readily available to practitioners such information about the mechanics of the digestive tract as they need daily in their attempt to improve their diagnostic and therapeutic technic.
