The objectives of the popular first edition have been retained in the second edition of this book, namely, the correlation of pharmacology with the medical sciences, the interpretation of the actions of drugs from the viewpoint of important advances in medicine and the placing of emphasis on the applications of pharmacodynamics to therapeutics. The authors state that they have made a special effort to provide the reader with a "way of thinking about drugs" so that he will be able to evaluate critically the published literature on the many new therapeutic agents.
