Thermoregulation in Fever.

A systems approach to the physiological thermoregulator which controls the human body temperature indicates that the regulator has at least three (and possibly more) sets of thermal sensors operating in parallel. Physiological data from human and animal experiments point to thermoregulatory signals arising in the preoptic region of the brain stem, the respiratory tract, the skin and possibly the muscles. Each of these sensor systems respond to heating and cooling and have setpoints at different temperature levels. Different control constants and response times with respect to thermal stress appear to be characteristic of each system depending on whether the stress
