Although pericholangitis has been reported in several disorders including primary biliary cirrhosis (1a, 2a and b, 3-5), extrahepatic biliary obstruction (1b, 2c, 4, 6b) and various systemic infections (2d, 6a, 7, 8), there has been little emphasis on the association of pericholangitis with ulcerative colitis. Pericholangitis was not a finding in the recent study by Edwards and Truelove (9) of 624 cases of ulcerative colitis nor by Palmer, Kirsner, Goldgraber, and Fuentes (10) in a recent large postmortem survey.
