Increasing interest in the medical and social problems of the later years of life has stimulated the production of textbooks and monographs both here and abroad.

The present volume, based on the varied experience of the David Gargill Professor of Geriatric Medicine in the University of Glasgow, is a first-rate contribution to this literature, soundly based on modern concepts of pathological physiology and pathological anatomy. On every page we recognize observations that are derived from first-hand bedside experience rather than from the scholastic thinking of an ivory-towered academician.
