Whenever a book concerning the marriage of technology and medicine is published, there is a high risk that it will not appeal to people in either field. This is true for this text; it has too broad a scope to be comprehensive. Although the editor does not say so in the preface, the content appears to be the proceedings of a European Symposium. The textbook disguise includes the feature of printing on two thirds of the page, with key phrases boldly printed in the wide margin. This is aesthetically pleasing but belies the true length of the book. The contents
