This excerpt has been provided in the absence of an abstract.

Does not differ in any major ways from the preceding edition. As before, the content overlaps heavily with that of standard textbooks of internal medicine and its subspecialties (and other main specialties) but offers more detail in some articles. Lacks references to more detailed sources. The listing of laboratory test values includes the newer metric units—namely, the millimolar units that are replacing gram and milligram units and are now widely used in European laboratories and journals. The attractiveness of this reference work for the physician will depend on the up-to-dateness of his or her collection of textbooks and reference sources.
