This excerpt has been provided in the absence of an abstract.

Reprints of scientific articles and news notes originally published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that date back to the detection and reporting of some of the original cases. Three introductory essays constitute the new material. Intended as a summary of the accumulation of scientific information on AIDS, but restricted to what has appeared in one journal. Possibly most useful as a handy collection of articles, all under one roof. Clinicians may find more valuable for reference one of the several monographs available that are organized as coherent textbooks.
