This may be the year of the dog, or the dragon, in an oriental calendar, but in the English-language world of medicine it might be marked as the year of the big book, nay, two big books: a new medical dictionary on a scale and scope never seen before in English, and a mini-encyclopedia of medicine unlike any other major medical reference work available.
