The Oxford Handbook is a British cousin to The Merck Manual but is much more concise and sharply focused on clinically useful matters. The articles are grouped by the main clinical fields. The scope is notably wider than in most clinical textbooks, with articles on such topics as "the patient in disgrace," "dying at home," "sex therapy for couples," "ethnic matters," and "bureaucracy." The necessarily British orientation in some details might reduce the value of this manual slightly in non-British settings, but it can be recommended as a compact pocket reference for clinicians in any field and any country.
