Over the past several decades a large number of textbooks, monographs, and review articles have addressed the subject of respiratory insufficiency. However, these writings devoted little attention to the relatively large and perhaps growing field of respiratory insufficiency that results from ventilatory or respiratory pump failure.
This book is a welcome addition to the literature because it goes a long way in filling this void.
The volume is divided into four parts: physiology of ventilation with 13 chapters; ventilatory failure, 6 chapters; disorders causing ventilatory failure, 7 chapters; and treatment of ventilatory failure, 11 chapters. Each chapter is informative and
