During the study period, 455 episodes of K. pneumoniae bacteremia occurred in 440 patients; of these, 202 (44.4%) episodes in 196 patients were community acquired and 253 (55.6%) episodes in 244 patients were nosocomially acquired. Table 2 shows the characteristics of the participants.
