It was a usual day in my office when Eve entered the room with her husband. Eve was born in Ethiopia and immigrated to Israel with her husband and children several years ago. I knew Eve well from her recurrent visits to my clinic, where I was her family physician. She would come in periodically and invariably describe a wide assortment of aches and weaknesses that prevented her from working. I ordered extensive tests and spent many hours deepening my knowledge about Eve and her potential condition. The tests revealed nothing; the results could not be translated into any known diagnosis.
