    Our friend Paul Epstein died in March of this year. Two years earlier, in good health and in his full powers, he had suffered a stroke. He was making a gradual recovery when the other shoe dropped. This man we loved bore the burdens of pancreatic cancer for a year before leaving us at age 68.

    Paul began at Annals of Internal Medicine as an Associate Editor in 1977 and retired in 2007 after spending 10 years as a Deputy Editor. That's 30 years of service to Annals and …
