Can the layman be brought to appreciate the countless subtle mechanisms of the human body? Dr. Miller and Mrs. Goode must believe he can, for this is the aim of their work. They have tried to describe the structure and function of the body at all levels of organization, from the molecular to the mental. In their account they have not simply reduced conventional texts of physiology to a gruel for the reader untrained in biology, but have brought to him that awe and excitement felt by every sensitive physician when he reflects on the complexity of his body.
