This program consists of three modules: disease -oriented database management, telecommunications, and diagnostic decision support. The database management module allows the physician to enter and store information about diseases of interest. For each disease entity, the physician may enter characteristic features (attributes) such as pertinent historical information, signs, symptoms, laboratory findings, predisposing conditions, and complications. One can also indicate how essential each attribute is for making the diagnosis, and what proportion of affected patients will have that attribute. The costs of laboratory tests and radiologic procedures used in making the diagnosis can also be included in the database for each disease.
