The processes involved in differential diagnosis based primarily on bedside observations have lost prominence in the clinical literature in recent years due to the rise of the extensive technology now available for application to the diagnostic issues presented by patients. It is therefore heartening that those responsible for maintaining the health of such a venerable old friend as French's Index of Differential Diagnosis continue their activities. The book is not only an old friend, not only a venerable one, but is reassuringly spry as well.
The current twelfth edition continues the format of its predecessors, with an alphabetic presentation of
