An attractive and interesting collection of lectures, scientific presentations, and historically significant articles all relating to Dr. Austrian's life's work with Streptococcus pneumoniae. Gives a picture of the painstakingly slow work needed to finally develop a clinically useful product—the pneumococcal vaccine. Best viewed as a contribution to the literature on the history of medicine and scientific discoveries.
