In a series of studies on compensatory hypertrophy of the thyroid gland Loeb has shown that the oral administration of potassium iodide in partialy thyroidectomized animals not only fails to present hypertrophy but may even stimulate regenerative activity, while the feeding of anterior lobe of pituitary gland has an inhibiting effect, preventing even moderate degrees of hypertrophy and causes a hardening of the colloid and a lowering of the acinar cells.
