The copper content of the normal liver varies between 0.5 and 13 mg. pro Kilo liver. Out of 21 cirrhotic livers only 3 had a copper content under 20 mg; the others had a much higher value, even over 100 mg. Experiments on rats would tend to show that the copper has an etiologic rôle in the production of cirrhosis, and that the increased copper content is not the result of the cirrhosis. Feeding of rats with inorganic copper salts led to the production of a cirrhosis of the liver in three out of 4 cases. The increased copper content
