This little volume is a well-written and interesting history of smallpox inoculation and vaccination, and particularly of Edward Jenner and the great part he played in the establishment of the knowledge of protection against smallpox. The historical knowledge of this disease up to the time of Jenner is first briefly sketched, and this is followed by a detailed history of inoculation as a preventive method, giving of course, due mention to Lady Mary Wortley Montague and the part played by her in the introduction of this method of prevention into England.
