The presentation of a philosophy of therapeutics is the aim of this book; thus the purchaser who expects specific advice for the therapy of disease may feel that he has been deceived by the title. The thesis that there are no diseases, but only diseased individuals, is stressed throughout. Certainly, there is nothing new in this conception, but there is much to be gained by keeping it in mind. The style is heavy, somewhat involved, and reminiscent of a preceding century. In the few instances in which the author leaves the realm of the abstract some rather unusual pronouncements appear.
