In 1931, Bordley1 reviewed the literature and analyzed 17 cases of renal insufficiency following blood transfusions. Eleven of these 17 cases died and six recovered. No patient recovered who had received more than 540 c.c. of blood; none died who had received less than 350 c.c. of blood.
The present case is reported as unusual, in that recovery followed transfusion of 750 c.c. of blood, and that it seemed to depend on venesection, a measure not evidently used in previous cases reported.
