There is a timed sequence of three fundamentals concerned in any increase in cell number in multicellular organisms, and these are the processes of proliferation, differentiation and organization. Since they are dynamic processes which proceed in regular but overlapping order at any given stage of growth and development, it is exceedingly difficult to experiment with them in the higher animals, including man.
