Over the course of some years, as the result of the researches of a number of investigators, our conception of the antigen has been considerably modified, and, with this, our ideas about the specificity of the antigen-antibody reaction. A critical review of this work is, therefore, not unneeded. The present book is essentially a translation of the German edition with such alterations and additions as were found necessary to bring it up-to-date.
