Mr. President, Members of the American College of Physicians, Ladies and Gentlemen:
I appreciate deeply the honor of being asked to give the James D. Bruce Memorial Lecture on Preventive Medicine for 1948. It is a pleasure to attend this Convocation and to be here with so many good friends.
I welcome the opportunity to discuss such a timely subject with this distinguished group of leaders in American Medicine, for I am sure there has never been a period in the history of the country when preventive medicine was of such vital importance to our national welfare and security. We
