The practical clinical value of multiple precordial unipolar leads has been clearly established.1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Not so well appreciated and, in fact, in some quarters doubted, has been the clinical aid obtained from unipolar extremity leads.7, 8, 9, 10 The present study was made to define and illustrate the possible added advantages of unipolar extremity leads.
It has been noted by Wilson and his associates,1 Goldberger,3 and Myers and his associates7 that the unipolar extremity leads are, in effect, highways that link the precordial leads with the standard limb leads.
