It is unfortunate that the identity of the distinguished British author-surgeon cannot be known generally so that the reader of this absorbing work could thank him personally. Harvey Graham is the pseudonym of the author. Beginning with the earliest myths through available records, the author guides the reader through the absorbing story of childbirth and gynecology to the present day in the most entertaining manner this reviewer has had the privilege of perusing. There is a brief bibliography, and an index of personal names and subjects. The book can be recommended most heartily to anyone who would read history in
