Essential polyangiitis (periarteritis nodosa, polyarteritis nodosa, panarteritis, polyangiitis and necrotizing arteritis) is a primary disease of the vascular system of unknown etiology with protean clinical manifestations.
We became interested in the hepatic manifestations of this disease when two such patients were admitted to Percy Jones Army Hospital within a period of six months. A review of the available literature confirmed the rarity of these cases. It is our purpose to present the clinical manifestations of essential polyangiitis in 200 cases reported in the English literature since 1941, and in 230 cases taken from the autopsy protocols in the files of
