This book consists of a series of lectures given at Oxford designed to give the student insight into the use of the experimental method in medicine with the hope that at least a few will carry such an outlook into clinical medicine and surgery. It is emphasized that the lectures do not form a survey of general pathology, but rather "they attempt to treat of some of the fundamental changes that take place in the body in response to injury . . . and to discuss some present day views about the nature and causes of such changes."
