The author emphasizes a clinical approach and uses 20 noted expert contributors in an attempt to cover the broad field of pulmonary diseases. The text is a valuable addition for general practitioners and medical students but would seem to be less useful for physicians working in the specialty of chest diseases. Most discussions do not cover therapeutic aspects and complications in enough detail to be a "sound authoritative guide on every phase of pulmonary diseases." Exceptions are helpful detailed descriptions of bronchoscopy and bronchography.
