When the first edition of Lever's Histopathology of the Skin appeared in 1949, sighs of relief were heard in pathology labs throughout the country. It filled a most obvious hiatus. There was until then no gathering together in English, and in one place, of that considerable body of facts of special interest to the dermatopathologist and the general pathologist, who are daily faced with the problem of dealing with the microscopic changes in an organ which by its accessibility has lent itself so readily to the matching of clinical and histologic changes that it now presents with a bewildering catalogue
