In fields advancing as rapidly in knowledge and concepts as those encompassed by this symposium, it is increasingly important to have up-to-date review articles readily available to the physician. This is true not only to keep the physiologically oriented clinician aware of recent developments, but also because the lag between the development of new concepts and their application to diagnosis and treatment is becoming ever shorter. This series of articles originally published in the journal Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases, Vols. III and IV, answers this need admirably.
