This useful and interesting volume attempts, with some success, the sort of thing that cannot possibly be done to everyone's satisfaction. By "trends" is meant "the thoughts, ideas and hopes of those actively working in a field" and representing several countries. "Ideas have been regarded as more important (and more interesting) than techniques."
