The newly formed German Society for Nephrology held its first symposium in 1961. The present volume records the proceedings of this meeting. In the introduction Professor Sarre, the chairman, explains the formation of yet another "organ" society by pointing to the increasingly rapid growth of knowledge of the physiology and the pathology of the kidney, and of water and electrolyte metabolism. The contributions to the present volume are an indication of the widespread interest shown in these fields.
