Neurologic manifestations occur frequently in polycythemia. The present study reports the neurologic signs and symptoms observed in 511 patients with polycythemia and reviews certain problems of polycythemia which may be of interest to the neurologist. Because symptoms referable to the nervous system are common in this disorder, and because the neurologic signs are sometimes dramatic, several similar reports and reviews of smaller series of patients have already appeared (1-12).
The 511 patients with polycythemia were either hospitalized at The Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, or treated by members of the hematology department. The material on the hospitalized
