Among those diseases of muscle are the afflictions in which myotonia is a major symptom. Myotonic muscular dystrophy is one of these disease processes. This is a generalized process involving many tissues of the body. Eighteen patients with this disease who attend the Muscle Clinic of the Johns Hopkins Hospital have been studied extensively during the past 3 years. The clinical and laboratory studies done on these patients form the basis of this report.
